HOA posts,
Road conditions
To whom it may concern,
I’m not sure who to address, but I am very concerned about people speeding around the area. I have an 11 year old daughter who attends school, and the rate of speed some people go around here during bus time hours when kids are catching the bus to school concerns me. It is only a matter of time before someone is in the street and gets hurt. The county sheriff can only do something if they catch someone in the act. Not sure what to do, but I wanted to express my concern and frustration that too many people up here are driving way too fast for the conditions with no sidewalks or crosswalks. Thank you.

First, as the typist on the latest newsletter, I wish to apologise for the one rather flagrant spelling error. Others on the board had pointed it out to me but in the course of editing, that change did not make it in. I will not point out where it is in case you don’t see it.
Second, I’d like to just seed any possible discussion about the fund raising effort for the tennis court activities. There’s plenty of information in this and previous newsletters about the options. The board has developed these options based on research with suppliers and conversations with residents, but if there are comments please feel free to make them to any of the board members or by posting here. We are trying to get a feel for what we can accomplish in time to get activity underway to have the results ready for the summer. In order to start activity we need to understand if we have the actual volunteer financial commitment that we need.

As per the FVAWD website:
Drinking Water Warning has been Rescinded
The water is now safe to drink.
January 10, 2008 -
The boil order has been rescinded. The water is now confirmed safe to drink by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.
Drinking Water Warning in Effect!
DO NOT DRINK THE WATER WITHOUT BOILING IT FIRST.
Bring all water to a boil, let it boil for three minutes, and let it cool before using, or use bottled water.
Update 1/7/08:
The groundwater plant is up and running and the tank is full, however we are waiting until Tuesday to take the samples to ensure that the distribution system has been fully disinfected.
District staff is confident that it has identified and corrected the problem. A pipe that connects the raw water system with the treated water system was discovered open. The valve was inadvertently opened in the start-up process of bringing the newly installed sand filters on-line. Once discovered, the connection was immediately closed. This is an old pipe connection that should have never existed in the first place and will be permanently disconnected to prevent any reoccurrence. However, the boil order is still on and it is anticipated that it will be removed be the end of the week. Until then, we appreciate your cooperation and patience.

THE GAZETTE

It’s been an up-and-down year for the tiny Forest View Acres Water District.
In February, Forest View, which serves 282 homes between Monument and Palmer Lake, won a statewide water taste-testing contest.
Then came the big crisis: The weekend of May 19, many homes lost water for a few days when the district’s overloaded water plant stopped working and the pipe that connects the district well to the storage tank sprang a leak.
The whole district was placed under a state-mandated boil order for about two weeks.

The July 6th leak on Stoneview: An after action report by Rich Crocker, President of the Board.
Saturday July 7, 2007
Caveat: I did not keep a detailed time log, this is sequence that occurred as I recall it and hope that it will illustrate my thought process as it occurred.
On July 6th, I received a phone call from a resident about 530PM about a break on Stoneview, a gusher! She informed me that she also had called our operator at CSI. As soon as I hung up, Mike Bacon called me and let me know that Jeremy, an operator from Palmer Lake was on his way to assist with shutting off valves, and that Josh, the CSI operator on duty was also en route. Mike also informed me that the tank had dropped from 22 feet to 16 since 2PM, about 60,000 gallons which confirmed the seriousness of the leak.
I went to meet Jeremy on Stoneview and spoke by telephone with Josh. Josh had already made arrangements with an excavating company (AAA) to begin work that evening if necessary. I gave the go ahead to begin work.

Message:
Residents,
Operations staff has confirmed that the water main break on Stone View has been repaired. Main lines are filling now and service should be restored to all residents very shortly.
Operations staff contacted the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) earlier this evening with information regarding the water main break. Initial conversations with CDPHE indicated that a “boil order” will not be necessary. CDPHE will confirm this with operations staff tomorrow (Saturday) and an update will be sent out once that confirmation is received.
CDPHE did advise all residents to flush their service lines by running a faucet inside or outside your home for five to ten minutes before consuming any water. Please share this information with all friends and neighbors of the Forest View Acres Water District community.
